Responsibilities
The implementation of Atlantic Towing Limited Policies and Management System requirements on board and motivation of the crew in the observance of the safety and environmental protection policy
Observing that the navigation of the vessel and day–to–day conduct of shipboard operations are carried out in a safe, environmentally sound and efficient manner in accordance with applicable standards and regulations, good seamanship practices and company policies and procedures
Ensuring that a planned maintenance program is implemented and executed so that the vessel and her equipment are maintained in a proper condition, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, industry practices, and additional requirements of Atlantic Towing Limited
Monitoring the vessel’s certification status and maintain an up–to–date file of the vessel’s certificates
Reporting accidents/incidents, hazardous situations, and nonconformities
Ensuring that the vessel’s crew and emergency equipment are maintained in a high state of readiness to respond effectively to potential emergency situations
Muster lists developed and posted and regular emergency drills conducted to identify areas where improvements can be made
Implementation of personnel–related procedures and arrangements, including proper sign– on of all crew, maintenance of the Articles of Agreement, verifying that all crew carry updated certificates of competency, training and medical fitness, performance appraisals, identification of training needs and provision of onboard training, crew discipline, etc.
Where applicable, responsible for the implementation of the Vessel Security Plan, including crew training and familiarization, maintenance of relevant records, inspection and testing of security equipment and observance of security procedures and arrangements

Chief Engineer
Job Description
Atlantic Towing is seeking Chief Engineer for the Harbour and Coastal fleet. The Chief Engineer is responsible to the Captain for the safe, environmentally sound, and efficient running of the Engine Room Department and maintenance of all machinery.
Responsibilities
Ensure that proper engine room watchkeeping arrangements are in place and, where applicable, appropriate Standing Orders and Night Orders for the type of vessel and operation are developed
Ensure that the vessel’s maintenance program is implemented and maintained in accordance with applicable regulations, manufacturer specifications, company policies and good engineering practices and relevant records properly maintained
Monitor performance, maintenance and repair of all machinery and electrical equipment, including Main Engines and Auxiliary Machinery, Steering Gear, Thrusters, Oily Water Separator, Sewage Treatment Plant, Pumps, Valves, Piping, Refrigeration Machinery, Deck machinery (i.e. winches, cranes, davits, capstans, windlasses, etc.), Galley, Other equipment as fitted as well as the vessel’s structure with respect to hull and bulkhead, corrosion, and leaks
Monitor the survey status of the vessel’s machinery and maintain a current file of the vessel’s class machinery survey reports
Distribute work assignments, supervision, training, familiarization, and conduct performance appraisals of engine room personnel
Supervision of any work of a hazardous nature, ensuring that all safety procedures are followed (i.e. Safe Work Permit, Confined Space Entry, Lockout/Tag Out, Job Safety Analysis, etc.)
Inform the Master of any machinery damage affecting the seaworthiness of the vessel, engine revolutions, possible delay or need for outside assistance in effecting repair – emergency or urgently needed repairs are to be requested immediately
Review and sign-off the engine room Logbook, ensuring that all required information is entered and kept up-to-date
Ensure that the vessel’s official documents and in particular the Oil Record Book is maintained properly and up-to-date
Ensure at all times that sufficient bunkers, lubricating oils, and water are carried on board for the completion of the voyage, or particular task
Ensure that adequate engine room stores, supplies, and spare parts are available on board for the intended voyage and according to classification society standards
At the specified intervals, prepare and submit to the office the necessary management and performance reports, i.e. Change of Command, Fuel Reports, etc.

Key Responsibilities

2nd Engineer - Cargo Ship
The Second Engineer, primarily assigned to the engine room, reports directly to the Chief Engineer. During their watch, they oversee the maintenance, as well as the safe and efficient operation, of all the vessel’s mechanical and electrical equipment, thereby contributing to the reliability of onboard operations.
Main Responsibilities:
Stand watch in the engine control room to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all mechanical and electrical equipment on the vessel.
Conduct regular safety inspections of mechanical equipment.
Assist with mechanical repair work.
Perform routine maintenance tasks on assigned systems.
Supervise engine room ratings and engine cadets.
Requirements:
Minimum of 6 months of experience in a similar position.
Second-Class Engineer Certificate of Competency (Motor Vessel).
STCW Basic Safety Training Certificate.
Marine Medical Certificate (STCW).
Medical Care Provider Certificate (considered an asset).

RESPONSIBILITIES:
In addition to any watch keeping duties, the Fourth Engineer is responsible to the Chief Engineer for the proper, safe, efficient and economical operation of the vessel’s main and auxiliary machinery and equipment, in accordance with the schedules and procedures issued by the Chief Engineer.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Upon joining a vessel, the Fourth Engineer is to report to the Master and the Chief Engineer.
S/he is to consult with the Engineer they are relieving regarding the machinery and equipment for which s/he will be held responsible. The Fourth Engineer must then inspect such machinery and equipment, reporting any deficiencies to the Chief Engineer.
Complete NS PER 006 (Handover Report) & NS SAF 001 (Shipboard Familiarisation Record).
Responsible for the maintenance, operation and the cleaning of the lube oil and fuel oil purifiers, bunkering/transfer operations (under the specific direction of the Chief Engineer) and the sea water evaporation plant operation and maintenance, compressors, and all pumps.
To build up an intimate knowledge of all cargo handling machinery, pipeline systems, inserting venting systems, deck machinery and fire-fighting equipment aboard the vessel.
Direct unlicensed personnel in the proper and efficient execution of their duties.
Ensure that due diligence and adequate care to prevent waste and improper use of material and supplies is observed.
Identify and correct any unsafe working habits or conditions.
Check that areas and equipment under his supervision are maintained in a clean and safe condition.
Ensure positive action is taken in all cases to ensure that operations conform to company and other authoritative regulations.
Enact the necessary measures in a time of emergency to ensure the safety of personnel and the preservation of the environment and company property.
All certs must be valid from Transport Canada. Required certifications include: Cert of Comp, Tanker Level 1, Security Duties, Marine Medical, MEDs, First Aid, WHMIS, Confined Space, Passport and applicants must be able to work in the US.

Responsible for preparation, planning and cooking of meals and related tasks for all persons onboard the vessel.
Planning menus to provide nutritional, complete and appetising meals, minimising waste and utilising leftovers where appropriate.
Supervision and inspection of food preparation and service.
Ensuring strict storage rotation of refrigerated foods according to vessel movements and food quality.
The daily inspection of all refrigerated spaces and ensuring that the temperature of all refrigerated spaces is recorded twice daily.
Inspection of all Departmental stores on receipt.
The instruction and supervision of the Catering Department personnel in the proper execution of their assigned duties.

Maintain monthly consumption reports and inventory stock levels.
Calculate monthly victualling rates.
Maintain record of extra meals served to visitors.
The Health and Safety regulations governing catering are absolute and the Cook must exercise rigid control to ensure compliance with these regulations.
